Sloth-like

In on .

Well it’s been a while, eh? Again. I’m kinda terrible at this blogging lark. Sloth-like, you might even say, but in my defense I have been crazy busy of late. All manner of things going on, here in Raleigh and elsewhere in my life, so it’s been tricky, not to mention trying, attempting to juggle everything and stay relatively sane.

The last update on here was about getting shaved for St Baldrick’s. Man, that feels like forever ago now.

I ended up raising just over a grand in little over three weeks, and yes, I looked like a tool at the end of it. A happy tool though, it’s one of the weirdest, most satisfying things I’ve ever done. Pictures are here on the Baldrick’s site if you’d like a giggle.

Once the shaving was done I dived back into work, then travelled back to the UK to visit friends and family. Didn’t fit in as many people as I probably could have, but for once I felt like having an actual holiday, so I made the most of London as much as I could rather than travel all over the country.

Coming back from there I dived back into work and the stress that goes along with that, dealing with Samara’s new puppy, her nursing school schedule and everything else. Some of it fun, some of it? Eh, not so much.

It has crystalized a few things I’ve been thinking about for a while though, so I’m going to be moving back to London in a little while. Not 100% on the dates yet – there’s a lot to do before I can go back, but it’s definitely happening. It’ll be hard leaving my family and friends here behind, and harder still to leave Hank, but I have to. I’ve been living my life for other people for too long – I need to put myself first for a while.

So yeah, lots to do. And the sloths? SO awesome.

Getting Shaved for St Baldrick's!

In on .

How much would you donate for childhood cancer research to see me shave my head in solidarity with kids fighting cancer?

I’ve wanted to get involved with the awesome St. Baldrick’s charity for a couple of years now without quite managing to make it happen. This year, given that many of my good friends now have children of their own or are just about to, the opportunity to raise money to help fund research into childhood cancer was too much to pass up on.

On February 27th I’ll be going under the clippers with another three hundred or so(!) fellow fundraisers at The Hibernian on Glenwood here in Raleigh, shaving my head in solidarity with kids who lose theirs due to their treatments.

I originally set a modest fundraising goal just to see if I could reach it. I was quite surprised when I actually did, but even more so that it only took around 12 hours. I raised my goal and hit it again, then again, so now I’m not bothering to raise my goal, I’m just hoping to raise as much as I can.

If you’d like to donate to the cause you can do it through my profile page on the site.

Hopefully there’ll be lots of pictures taken during the event but I’ll make sure anyone who donates has plenty of opportunity to take the piss out of me and my newly shaved noggin. A Ross, Shaun or Michael Stipe I most definitely am not – I look ridiculous with a bald head. You’ll totally get your money’s worth, haha.

For posterity’s sake, here’s what I’m getting rid of:

Man, the title of this post is likely to send all sorts of weird traffic my way, eh?

1st page of book P1030044, originally uploaded by diceliving.

The Catcher In The Rye saved my life when I was younger.

I don't mean that in a jokey kind of way, I'm not being clever. The book saved me so many times from myself and my surroundings that it's hard to think of "me" without those words coming along for the ride.

Goodnight, JD, and thanks. You were aces.
