Mobile Web Design

Posted: Aug 29, 2007

Cameron Moll has finally released his downloadable book on Mobile Web Design.

I bought my copy yesterday and, slight order hiccup aside (thanks for the help, Cameron!) it’s well worth its $19 price tag. I’m guessing this is gonna end up being a must have book for anyone involved in building websites.

Highly recommended.

So today marks my 6 month anniversary of living in the United States.

This is officially the longest period of time I’ve spent away from the UK (the time I spent living in Jersey doesn’t count given that seemingly everyone there was English and treated it like one of the colonies).

After selling off or giving away practically everything I owned I packed the remainder into two bags and moved 4000 miles from my home in London to Raleigh North Carolina to see whether I thought I could make a go of living here. Obviously the answer turned out to be yes, and three months after arriving I was married to one of my best friends in a quiet personal ceremony in the back yard (flip-flops were optional).

Now we’re in the middle of reliving the immigration hassles that broke us up the first time we dated, but thankfully things are going much more smoothly than they did back then. Never thought that I’d be happy to pay lawyers thousands of dollars to do something for me, but then I never saw myself going through the visa process again either. Funny how things change as you get older and your perspective shifts.

So yeah, I’m well on the way to becoming a legal citizen of the United States of America. It still feels a little weird, but it’s becoming less so as time goes by, helped in no small way by Samara being so easy to get on with and the people I know here in Raleigh being so awesome.

Happy anniversary, me. Here’s to the next six months, eh?

Check out this absolutely wonderful fake Evening Standard headline generator. Some of them are almost as bat-shit insane as untouched Standard headlines.

The Beauty of Letterpress

Posted: Aug 21, 2007

Awesome video on the wonderful letterpress work done by Firefly Press.

The next time I get any business cards made up they’re going to be done using letterpress. Anyone out there know of any good local to North Carolina shops they want to tell me about?

Michael Vick pleads guilty; faces jail time

Posted: Aug 20, 2007

Michael Vick, the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons who was on trial for his part in running a dogfighting ring, is currently facing jail time after pleading guilty.

Some of the details that came out during the trial of how he treated the dogs he owned absolutely sickened me, so I’m glad that, for once, a star is getting the punishment he deserves instead of the usual kid-glove treatment usually meted out to the rich and famous.

If there is any kind of justice in the world the bastard will meet someone on the inside who’ll treat him the same way he treated his dogs and when he’s released the NFL will never let him play in the sport again.

Cheney: Invading Iraq would create quagmire

Posted: Aug 18, 2007

Meant to blog about this a few days ago when I saw it via Matt Good’s site.

It’s amazing what a convincing and intelligent answer Cheney gives considering what he’s done since 9/11.

Why the Democrats haven’t begun impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney since gaining control of both Houses absolutely blows my mind…

Rapha – makers of some of the most beautiful cycling clothing I’ve ever seen are profiled in this case study by the Design Council.

Well worth a read if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

The photography of Michael Muller is amazing.

The Ethan Hawke and John C Reilly portraits are a personal favorite, but there’s so much great stuff in here.

Well worth checking out.

Boy, sure is hot, Jimbo

Posted: Aug 09, 2007

One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most since I moved over to the sunny climes of North Carolina is the change in climate. Apocalyptic weather over Britain this summer aside, it’s been nice to live somewhere where there are noticably different seasons.

It’s been a hot week here in Raleigh, but today is something else for a scrawny fair-skinned Welsh boy such as myself, and I’m absolutely loving it. So far at least. I may change my mind after a few more weeks of it.

current temperature in Raleigh: 38 degrees C. Yikes!
